Keeping Busy!!

Ok. So I’m just putting it out there. I know it’s keeping us safe but quarantine sucks. Im officially bored with every day being the same. My kids are bored. I even think my dog is bored.

My reviewing has been a little slow recently but that’s because I’ve had a hard few weeks as I am pregnant. Nausea has been my best friend and tiredness has kept it company for the full 16 weeks I have been with child. It’s been made even harder with the two boys being home as well. I haven’t had time for naps. I’ve barely had time for showers some days in a desperate attempt to keep my house tidy and my kids entertained. It’s no mean feat I’m telling you.

But I’ve got a bit more of a routine down. If my nose isn’t buried in a book then I’m writing on my computer. I’m halfway through my third novel and have so many ideas sitting in the wings I really need to get a shufty on to get them all written. They aren’t going to get publish with me just sitting on my backside doing nothing now, are they?

I love being a reviewer on NetGalley and having access to novels before they are published. I feel very privileged and am going to spend the next few weeks reading the long list I have and getting my reviews published on the website for you all to enjoy.

My current read is by Philippa Ashley. I love her books. The narration is so smooth and compelling; it pulls me in every time I open one of her books and I really struggle to put it down.

Let me know what you are reading at the moment. I would love to hear 🙂

Thanks again Booklovers.

The Secret Seaside Escape

Another fantastic novel from Heidi Swain and one that I have been very excited to read. Engaging from the very first page, through to the last, this is another Swain novel that I just did not want to put down. (Having children meant I had to, very reluctantly, but as soon as I had a spare moment my head was right back in it, dreaming of the beach.)

We meet Tess Tyler who works at her fathers PR firm and has worked her way up through the business, forgoing her holiday entitlement to get to the top. The recent death of her mother and her workaholic father, Tess is full of grief and not coping very well. After helping clear out her mum’s clothes Tess is reminded of her childhood and fond memories holidaying at Wynmouth on the Norfolk coast. So much so she googles a cottage that she always used to dream about to see if it is available for a holiday let.
Tess disappears to Wynmouth ready to relax and take the time out she needs to grieve her mother properly and also to read some very interesting diary entries she discovered in amongst her mums belongings.
Tess falls readily back in love with Wynmouth and also the people there. Sam, the holiday cottage Owner and landlord of the bar has her falling head over heels. Joe, a kiss she fondly remembers from her teenage years arrives to confuse the situation. Hope, a BFF she didn’t know she needed and her mother Sophie, who becomes a sort of guide for Tess and a shoulder to cry on.

Swain adds delectable twists and turns to this romance story, it all ended up how I wished it would but it got there in a way I never imagined. It really is packed full of very clever story telling and some of the smallest moments hint at the big reveal at the end. I am hoping that we can return to Wynmouth as it seems such an idyllic place I would be interested to see how it evolves, perhaps with other village characters coming to the forefront.
I love that this book is set somewhere completely different. There are many novels set on the beachfront on the market nowadays but this really catches my imagination because it’s somewhere new and unknown. Swain’s description of Wynmouth is perfect and is subtly sewn into her chapters to give a richness and depth to it and it leaves us longing for more.
She also cleverly weaves in important subjects of the day such as the environment and I was overjoyed to see a beach clean and the residents of Wynmouth taking it up as a monthly gathering to keep their beach safe and tidy. A very honest way of pointing out that we should be looking after our beaches.

Swainettes will be falling head over heels with this novel. Another fantastic book from Heidi Swain delivering not only an amazing location but also true to life emotions and a novel that doesn’t concentrate on romance, but instead focuses on the emotional growth of the main character through a turbulent time of her life. I simply cannot wait for her next one!

2019

It’s been a strange one and the final months in the year haven’t left me with very much time to do reviewing but as January draws closer I am looking forward to reigniting my passion and continuing to do what I love.

For now I shall spend the next couple of weeks watching Christmas films with my two boys and enjoying the festivities, having a break from the stresses of moving house and that taking over our lives for the last few months.

I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2020.

Keep turning those pages.

Surprise morning

So there I was doing my workout and my phone pinged to tell me I had received an email.

I was a sweaty mess by the time I finished and thought I had received another marketing email. But much to my surprise it was an email from Netgalley saying how much they liked my review of Poppy’s Recipe for Life and have created this for me…

Drum roll please…

It’s a quote from my review! I love this! And I was so chuffed to be recognised seeing as this is a pretty brand new endeavour.

Thanks for reading Booklovers

The Book Reviewing Begins…

Welcome to my blog! For lovers of books just like me!

In the words of the Greatest Showman ‘This is Me’

I am a 30 year old mum of two boys living in a little village in Lincolnshire. Being a mum is my main purpose in life at the moment but my dream is to be a writer. I love reading. Adore it. I can’t think of anything better to do of an evening. So in amongst my attempts to complete my third novel I have decided as I read so much that I should use my powers for good and share my honest opinion on whatever I have been reading.

Now to be completely honest with you, most of my reviews will be from the romance genre. I’m pretty obsessed with it and it’s my genre of choice for writing.

But I do delve into the mystery/crime/thriller/history genres from time to time. I find they engross me more and I need more time to read them than romance novels which I devour pretty quickly. So it isn’t very often that I get chance with two young children running around my feet. Perhaps when they are older… I can dream right?

I hope you enjoy. And please get in touch. My twitter page is listed and I’m happy for you to drop me an email. Click on the menu above for my contact form.

Last, but not least, enjoy my reviews. I hope they help you discover new reads. Share your thoughts if you read the same book as me as well.

Thanks Booklovers. 🙂
